Apple hearing open to public

The World Trade Organisation dispute panel has agreed to open its hearing on the Australia-New Zealand apple dispute to the public.

The public viewing will take place via simultaneous closed-circuit television broadcast in a separate room at the WTO Headquarters in Geneva on 2 and 3 September, 2008.

In light of limited seating capacity, the places in the public viewing room will be allocated on a first come, first-served basis.

The WTO is to hear arguments for and against Australia’s refusal to import New Zealand apples on the grounds they could carry disease into the country.
