Aussie olive producers win big in international competition

Two Australian olive producers took home four of the 18 ‘Best in Class’ awards at the New York International Olive Oil competition.

NSW producer Alto Olives claimed two ‘Best in Class’ awards for its Alto Robust and Alto Vividus.

The Alto estate has 15,000 olive trees of different European origin varieties, each chosen for particular attributes.

The other big winner from Australia, Boundary Bend, took home a 'Best in Class' award for its Cobram Estate Ultra Premium Hojiblanca and another for its Cobram Estate Super Premium Premiere.

Boundary Bend owns 2.2 million producing trees in the Murray Valley region of north-west Victoria.

New York International Olive Oil competition is the world’s largest olive oil quality competition judged entries from dozens of countries.

671 olive oils competed and Spain took home the most awards with 73, followed by Italy with 43. United States won 38 awards.

Other Australian olive oils that won awards include Cape Schanck Olive Estate, which won a Gold Award, Camilo Farm Blend and Cobram Estate Robust Flavour Intensity, which both took home Silver awards.
