Blockchain Team BeefLedger wins Good Design Award

The winners of Australia’s peak international design awards – the highest honour for design and innovation in the country – were announced  during the 2020 Good Design Week.

BeefLedger are winners of the prestigious Good Design Australia 2020 Award – in two categories.

Service Design – Commercial Services Category
BeefLedger – Streamlining Transactions in the Beef Supply Chain received a prestigious Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the Service Design Commercial Services category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

Streamlining Transactions in the Beef Supply Chain: Food fraud is a A$40 billion-a-year problem globally. In response, BeefLedger is a blockchain technology-enabled beef provenance tracking and credentialing platform. It employs export smart contracts to streamline cross-border payments. The platform strengthens consumer confidence and protects Australia as a premium producer of safe, high quality produce.

The Good Design Awards Jury praised BeefLedger – Streamlining Transactions in the Beef Supply Chain, commenting:
“A strong design combining mature approaches with newly developed blockchain technologies for an elegantly simple result. It’s a great example that demonstrates the intersection of data and design.”

Design Strategy Category
BeefLegends – A Design Strategy Connecting Australian Producers and Chinese Consumers received a Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the Design Strategy category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

Beefledger is an integrated blockchain-enabled food provenance and smart contract transaction platform. BeefLegends is its design led consumer engagement strategy. BeefLegends combats food fraud by embedding authentic regional stories in the data that credentials Australian beef exported to China. It connects two ends of the supply chain for mutual benefit.

Both projects were designed by BeefLedger in collaboration with researchers at Queensland University of Technology. The design and development was undertaken as part of the Export Smart Contracts Project, funded jointly by BeefLedger, Queensland University of Technology and Food Agility CRC.

The annual Good Design Awards is Australia’s oldest international Awards for design and innovation with a proud history dating back to 1958. The Awards celebrate the best new
products and services on the Australian market, excellence in architectural design, engineering, fashion, digital and communication design, design strategy, social impact design and young designers.
