Coca-Cola enters cider market with Rekorderlig venture

Rekorderlig has entered a joint venture deal with Coca-Cola Amatil, which will see CCA as the sole importer and distributor of the popular cider brand in Australia.

The partnership is effective from 1 January, 2014, which is when a current restraint on CCA not to sell, distribute or manufacture beer or cider will be lifted.

Kieron Barton, director at Rekorderlig's global development partner, Chilli Marketing, said "We are excited to appoint a global leader in the beverage industry such as CCA as our partner, to further develop the Rekorderlig brand.

"The new venture gives tremendous scope to grow Rekorderlig's sales operations."

Rekorderlig will be CCA's first cider brand in its portfolio, and plans are to increase the brand's reach through an intense nationwide sales distribution drive.

CCA's managing director of Australian Beverages, John Murphy said "By leveraging CCA's large scale sales and distribution expertise, I believe we will be able to further strengthen Rekorderlig's market leading position."

According to Rekorderlig, ater two and a half years in the Australian market, the brand not only holds a 17.5 percent share of the packaged cider category but it is contributing over a third of actual retail growth. Last summer, Rekorderlig represented 40 percent of the $41m incremental value added to the cider category.
