Powdered alcohol turns water into vodka

America’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau has approved seven alcoholic powders which are to be marketed under the brand name Palcohol.

Among the powders is Powderita, a powdered margarita, as well as powdered mojitos, cosmopolitans and rum and vodka, each needing the addition of only 150mL of water, The Australian reports.

The creator of the powders, Mark Phillips, gained approval earlier this month to market Palcohol.

"Palcohol is powder and very light, you can take it just about anywhere to enjoy a cocktail,"  the producers, a Arizona-based company called Lipsmark, said in a statement.

"Take Palcohol into the (concert or sporting) venue and enjoy a mixed drink for a fraction of the cost," the product’s website says.

"So many stadiums don't even serve alcohol … That's almost criminal. Bring Palcohol in and enjoy the game."

The website promoted adding Palcohol to food, and even snorting it, before adding that this will “mess you up. Use Palcohol responsibly.”

After the product attracted media attention, the website was taken down and heavily rewritten.

Patents for the powdered alcohol are said to be pending.
