Although up-to-date information is hard to obtain, there are more than 242 operational anaerobic digestion (AD) plants in Australia, with a total estimated energy potential of 103 TWh (371 PJ). However, a number of these plants have failed to perform in line with original predictions, leaving some operators and investors frustrated and disillusioned. However, there is scope to turn these plants into exemplars of biogas production.
