Taylors takes out Riedel Trophy at Royal Melbourne Wine awards

Clare Valley winery, Taylors Wines has taken out the Riedel Trophy for best Riesling at the Royal Melbourne Wine awards.

Judged against over 100 wines from some of Australia’s most respected Riesling regions, the 2014 St Andrews Riesling came out with a score of 97.

"We used to hold off on releasing wines from the St Andrews range for at least a couple of years,” said managing director of Taylors Wines, Mitchell Taylor.

“However, when we harvested in February the winemaking team were confident they were onto something really special.”

The trophy winning riesling joins its sibling, the 2010 St Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon, which was awarded the Warren Winiarski Trophy at the prestigious London International Wine and Spirit Competition.

“Winning these prestigious trophies for two of our St Andrews varieties demonstrates the exceptional depth of talent of the Taylors winemaking team and the unique terroir of our Clare valley estate,” said Taylor.
