Taylors Wines scoops up prestigious international award

Taylors Wines, a family owned winery based in South Australia’s Clare Valley has taken home a prestigious award at the London International Wine and Spirits Competition.

The 2010 St Andrews cabernet sauvignon won the Warren Winiarski Trophy – which marks the second time that the winery has taken home the prize. Taylors 2001 vintage St Andrews won the same award in 2005, The Australian reports.

"We could only have dreamed to receive this trophy for a second time and both times for the St Andrews cabernet sauvignon makes it all the more exciting," said Mitchell Taylor, managing director.

Taylor said that the wine was produced from grapes grown in the most favourable of conditions – heavy winter rains followed by a hot and dry summer.

The award winning 2010 St Andrews vintage will be available to purchase as of next year.

Other Australian wineries to pick up trophies at the event include:

  • Wolf Blass White Label Riesling 2001 – Single Vineyard White Wine Award
  • Wolf Blass Platinum Barossa Shiraz Single Vineyard 2008 – Single Vineyard Red Wine Award
  • All Saints Estate Rutherglen Grand Muscat NV – Fortified Wine Award
  • McGuigan Bin 9000 Semillon 2007 – Semillon Award
  • Gatt Shiraz 2008 – Shiraz/Syrah Award
