UK blogger to judge Hunter Valley Wine Show

On Monday 15 August a panel of local, national and international judges will sip their way through the Hunter’s most outstanding wines in 33 different classes at the 2016 Clear Image Hunter Valley Wine Show.

This year, award-winning international wine blogger and author of ‘Drink Me’, Matt Walls, will be joining the judging panel.

In total 644 entries have been received from 70 exhibitors (wine makers).

The Clear Image Hunter Valley Wine Show is considered one of the leading wine shows in Australia with judging to be held from 15 to 17 August with the awards to be announced at the Clear Image Hunter Valley Wine Show Celebration Luncheon on Friday 19 August at Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley Marquee.

The Clear Image Hunter Valley Wine Show will be held at Lone Pine Barracks, Singleton.

Highlights in brief:

International judge: From selling beer in a local liquor store, to editing the London Wine Guide and regularly judging international wine competitions, Matt Walls has achieved incredible success in the wine industry over the past 15 years. Born in the United Kingdom, Matt has worked for Bollinger Champagne, helped manage and buy wines for The Sampler, and has recently published, ‘Drink Me’, which has sold over 10,000 copies. As a freelance wine writer and consultant, Matt has been recognised for his accomplishments through various awards, including the 2015 International Wine & Spirit Competition Blogger and was shortlisted for Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards 2016 Online Drink Writer.

The Show: features wines from 70 exhibitors (wine makers) of the Hunter Valley vying for more than 25 trophies including the prestigious honours of the Petrie-Drinan Trophy for Best White Wine of the Show, Doug Seabrook Memorial Trophy for Best Red Wine of the Show, Ian Riggs Wine of Provenance and Les Evans Trophy for Best Named Vineyard Wine.

The history of the wine show dates back to 1848 when one of the first wine shows in Australia was held in the Hunter Valley. The Hunter Valley Wine Show has been held continuously since 1974.
